Harold Curry Named President of Detroit Commerce Bank

Harold G. Curry

DETROIT - (May 23, 2003) - Harold G. Curry, a longtime Detroit banker, has joined Detroit Commerce Bank as president/CEO. He succeeds Linda Watters, the bank's founding president who was recently appointed commissioner of the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Services by Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Curry said he was ecstatic about the opportunity to lead Detroit Commerce Bank, which is located on the ground floor of the Penobscot Building at 645 Griswold in downtown Detroit. "This leadership position is an opportunity to stay in the community and serve businesses and consumers, which in turn will help the city of Detroit and Wayne County grow and prosper," he said. "It is my aim to bring the highest level of service possible for clients. With all the new development underway, I think Detroit Commerce Bank can play a role in the continued growth and development of Detroit."

Prior to joining Detroit Commerce Bank, Curry was a group sales manager for Bank One (previously NBD) in Detroit since 1997. In that position, he managed two commercial lending groups, as well as a foreign corporate commercial banking group for Michigan, western Ohio and Canada. From 1991-97, he served as a divisional sales manager in commercial lending.

From 1985-91, Curry was chief financial officer and general manager of Bing Steel Inc. and its construction management subsidiary, Heritage 21 Construction Co. In these positions, he was responsible for managing a two-plant steel warehouse and service center, as well as small and mid-sized commercial and light industry construction projects.

Curry launched his banking career in 1970 at NBD as an assistant branch manager. In 1972, he joined the correspondent banking division where he was a correspondent banker for eight years. He was a relationship manager from 1980-85.

Born and raised in Detroit and a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, Curry has a bachelor's degree in finance. His community activities include serving as a member of the board of directors of Detroit Downtown Inc., Friends of Detroit Public Library and a member of the Detroit Black Chamber of Commerce. He is a trustee of New Prospect Baptist Church in Detroit and a member of the church's endowment fund board of directors.
